DIGITAL ANNOUNCES CELEBRIS GL: DESKTOP PCs
THAT OPTIMIZE WINDOWS 95 FOR ENTERPRISE COMPUTING

...Answers Customer Demand for All-Encompassing Desktop PC...

MAYNARD, Mass., Aug. 21, 1995 Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced the Celebris GL family of high-performance desktop PCs
that feature board-level integration of top-line audio, video and
networking - unavailable in any other system in its price class -
making the Celebris GL an ideal and highly affordable Windows 95
client.

The Celebris GL PCs offer advanced business users a potent
combination of performance, flexibility and ease-of-use,
incorporating powerful Intel Pentium processors and the latest
multimedia, graphics and communications technologies, as well as
enhanced DMI network management, backed by uncompromising system
hardware. The systems, which are available in low-profile and
short-tower configurations, will begin shipping on August 24, 1995,
the day the new Windows 95 operating system is released.

"The Celebris GL family is the first product launched since
Digital and Microsoft announced on August 2 a strategic alliance to
meet customer demand for solutions and support in enterprise-wide
computing," said Enrico Pesatori, vice president and general manager
of Digitals Computer Systems Division. "The Celebris GL family gives
business users the best of both world's Microsoft's leadership in
client/server software, and Digital's leadership in PC clients,
service, networking connectivity and systems integration."

Rock-Solid Technology for Demanding Applications

Celebris GL systems provide integrated technology that is ideal
for fast-response, demanding business and analytical applications
such as 3D illustration, financial and scientific analysis and video
conferencing. Systems incorporate high-performance hardware
components: Pentium processors; EDO memory; pipeline burst cache;
Intel Triton FX chipset; PCI bus master Enhanced-IDE and integrated,
extended performance 64-bit graphics.

Workstation-quality multimedia technology - integrated at
system level - includes a Matrox MGA Millennium graphics controller
that offers high-performance 2D/3D graphics acceleration. Dual
ported 2MB WRAM graphics memory (upgradeable to 8MB), provides
true-color graphics and high-resolution display. High-quality
16-bit stereo sound and quad-speed CD-ROM for fast response are
included on every preconfigured model.

Digital also is integrating its industry-leading PCI Ethernet
controller, offering users two connectivity options for maximum
network compatibility, and an Easy Network Setup utility in every
Celebris GL system, as well as bundling Spry Internet browsing
software for LANs.

"In designing the Celebris GL systems, we asked corporate
customers what they really wanted in a high-performance desktop PC,
and delivered it," said Howard Elias, vice president, Desktop
Product Line for Digital's Personal Computer Business Unit.
"In todays business environment, where system management and
maintenance can make up 75 percent of computing costs, the Celebris
GL system captures the sweet spot of enterprise computing, with
powerful technology that requires less time and expense to install,
use and manage."

Extended Desktop Management Lowers Cost of Ownership

Celebris GL systems exploit Digitals renowned networking
expertise, expanding on the company's superior Desktop Management
Interface (DMI), already implemented in the Venturis Pentium line
and soon to be made available for all Digital desktop products.
Celebris GL offers an enhanced DMI service layer and a unique
software extension to Microsoft's Systems Management Server.

For administrators in networked, enterprise environments,
Celebris GL systems with the enhanced DMI service layer provide
superior manageability, improved asset management, ease of
installation and faster deployment for standalone and LAN-based PCs.
The new capabilities reduce cost of ownership, save time, training
and travel costs, and improve response time, all resulting in higher
user productivity and satisfaction.

Along with remote configuration/diagnostics, management and
troubleshooting, the Celebris GL is designed to communicate a wealth
of new information, including chassis serial number, and actively
instrumented fields including motherboard serial number, CPU speed,
model name, memory installed, and BIOS revision to popular
enterprise and workgroup management tools including Microsoft System
Management Server, Digital POLYCENTER AssetWORKS, and Intel LANDesk
Management Suite 2.01, and others.

As part of its relationship with Microsoft, Digital has
developed a software extension to Microsoft System Management Server
for all Digital desktop PC products, enabling System Management
Server to read DMI information, and allow network administrators to
report and display more data about their network than is available
with other manufacturers PCs.

The Ideal Windows 95 Client

Celebris GL incorporates multiple features that optimize the
Windows 95 experience for desktop users. Plug and Play, DMI client
support and Windows 95 shutdown software augment setup and
management. Digital's integrated PCI Ethernet and Easy Network
Setup utility optimize Windows 95s specifications for efficient,
integrated networking. In addition, a specially designed keyboard
for Windows 95 and Windows 95 "getting started" software provide
easy adaptability.

Digital's worldwide service and support organization includes
the largest number of Microsoft-certified professionals available to
help users prepare for and make the transition to Windows 95.
A Worldwide Microsoft Authorized Support Center partner, Digital has
extensive Microsoft product knowledge, and Microsoft has selected
Digital for the Launch Support Team of Windows 95 in the US and
Europe, and for the Enterprise Migration Program, which assists
resellers in successfully migrating corporate customers to Windows
95 and Microsoft Office for Windows 95.

Celebris GL features a dual-install strategy for Windows 95 and
Windows for Workgroups 3.11/DOS operating systems and supports
Windows NT Workstation, OS/2 and SCO UNIX/ODT operating systems.
Systems are equipped with "Digital's Getting Started" user
interface, as well as Plug and Play, QA Plus Pro Diagnostics and
Adobe Acrobat Reader 2.0 software.

Systems are available with 90MHz, 100MHz, 120MHz and 133MHz
models in both low profile and short tower configurations. Celebris
GL short tower configurations provide an on-board Adaptec PCI SCSI
chip, leaving the five slots and six bays free, maximizing system
configuration options for unparalleled expansion capability.

Prices range from $2,799 for the Celebris GL 590 to $4,299 for
a Celebris GL 5133ST model. As with all Digital systems, Celebris
GL is backed by a three-year limited hardware warranty, including
one year on-site, and Digital's unmatched worldwide services and
support network. Digital was one of the few vendors to be ranked in
the "A" category for PC desktop service and reliability by a survey
of PC Magazine readers published in the July issue.

client/server solutions from personal computers to integrated
