DIGITAL EXPANDS DESKTOP FAMILY
WITH NEW CELEBRIS LINE

MAYNARD, MA -- September 5, 1994 -- Digital Equipment Corporation
today announced a major extension of its popular desktop PC
offerings, with five new personal computer systems including
powerful Pentium systems, a new naming convention, new packaging,
new enclosures and a new start-up menu -- all designed to help PC
users become more productive, more quickly.

"Today's announcement is the first step in a major fall PC
product roll-out that will move Digital's PC business further
towards its goal of becoming a top five PC company by the end of
1995," said Bernhard Auer, vice president and general manager of
Digital's PC Business Unit.

"Digital is known for delivering quality-engineered PCs, with
excellent price/performance and outstanding service and support,"
Auer added. "With our fall initiative, we are extending our PC
strategy beyond excellent technology, to significantly enhancing
how people interact with their computers. Digital is investing in
making the experience of dealing with computers easier and more
productive."

Performance For Advanced Business Applications -- At The Right Price

The new Digital Celebris desktop line is tailored for business
professionals who need a customized and more powerful computing
environment that is easily and quickly adaptable to meet their
advanced business application needs. Those typical business
environments include management reporting, financial analysis,
accounting, market analysis and research, and desktop publishing.

The new Digital Celebris line is designed to maximize
productivity and efficiency through well-balanced systems design.
The systems offer excellent price/performance through:

o powerful processors, including high-end i486 and Pentium
models;

o integrated features, such as Peripheral Component
Interconnect (PCI)/ISA bus architecture for overall faster
system performance and enhanced IDE for faster disk
performance;

o 8MB of standard system memory, expandable to 128MB;

o a high-performance external cache of 256KB, expandable to
512KB on Pentium models;

o leading-edge S3 64-bit graphics capabilities, with 1MB of
built-in video memory, expandable to 2MB; and

o a "virtual window" through video drivers that keep two
full-screen windows open simultaneously, either
horizontally or vertically.

Enhancements For Advanced Productivity Through Ease of Use Initiatives

"The new Celebris enclosures are designed with PC users,
support personnel and our channels partners in mind," said Ray
Weadock, vice president and general manager of the Americas, for
Digital's Personal Computer Business Unit. "The Celebris easy-
access cabinet design makes configuring, upgrading and service
faster and more cost-effective," he added.

Other ease-of-use initiatives announced today include new
packaging with a quick set-up guide; a built-in, easy-to-follow
start-up menu; as well as Plug and Play and Microsoft Chicago-ready
system design.

The entire Celebris line is in compliance with the U.S.
government's Energy Star power-conservation guidelines, making
Digital's Celebris PCs 'easy' on the environment, as well as an
energy-saving value for the customer.

System security figures prominently in each of the new
Celebris desktops, and includes an external chassis keylock,
keyboard password, diskette access control, hard-drive access
control and multiple-level password protection. The new PC line
also comes with Digital's worldwide service and support through a
limited three-year warranty, including one year on site.

Four of the five new models in the Digital Celebris line --
the Digital Celebris 466, 4100, 560 and 590 -- offer slimline
enclosures. The Digital FP590 features a full-profile enclosure.
U.S. list pricing starts at $1,949 for the Digital Celebris 466
model and $2,199 for the Pentium-based Digital Celebris 560. The
Celebris 466, 4100, 560 and 590 are beginning to ship in September.
The Digital Celebris FP590 will be available in early October.
