...New Alpha 21164-600MHz, 21164PC Chips Star in Demos...

LAS VEGAS, April 7, 1997 -- The world's fastest PCs and workstations
are showing off the hottest Windows NT software packages for 3-D
animation, visual effects, and film and video editing in the Digital
Semiconductor booth at the National Association of Broadcasters
(NAB) show.

At Booth S3308 in the Sands Expo Center, Digital Semiconductor,
a Digital Equipment Corporation business, is showcasing the
industry-leading performance of its Alpha microprocessors. More
than 15 system and software vendors who supply products to leading
film and video studios are appearing in the "Alpha Pavilion" to
demonstrate visual computing with performance and quality unmatched
elsewhere in the industry. Digital Semiconductor is also
demonstrating MPEG video solutions based on its 21230 video codec
chip.

New Software for Alpha

Among new products being shown at the Digital Semiconductor
booth are form.Z RenderZone v.2.9 3-D modeling software with organic modeling
enhancements from auto.des.sys; Denim Software's Illuminaire Composition image
editing suite; Metatools' Bryce 2 3-D landscape generator; a new release of
the Lightwave3D animation product from NewTek, Inc.; and Houdini, a new 3-D
rendering package from Side Effects Software.

The Alpha Pavilion also features prototype systems using
Digital's recently announced, record-setting Alpha 21164-600MHz
microprocessor as well as the low-cost Alpha 21164PC chip. The
Alpha 21164-600MHz system takes on a dual-processor Pentium Pro
system in a side-by-side demonstration of NewTek's Lightwave3D V5.0
3-D modeling/rendering software.

'Enviable Reputation'

"System and software vendors who use the Alpha NT platform have
built an enviable reputation for Alpha in the broadcast industry for
outstanding 3-D video imaging performance, quality, and
productivity," said Tim Miller, Digital Semiconductor's strategic
marketing manager for Alpha microprocessors. "Alpha systems and
Windows NT applications enable artists to push their creative
envelopes with superior floating point performance and lightning
system response."

Alpha-optimized software being demonstrated in the Digital
Semiconductor booth includes Digital Fusion for video effects from EyeOn
Software; in:sync's RazorPro editing software; MeshPaint3D texture and
painting software from Positron Publishing; SOFTIMAGE 3D modeling/rendering
software from Softimage, Inc.; Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge digital sound
studio; and Star Media's Video Action NT video editor. Other applications
running on Alpha platforms include Equilibrium's Debabelizer digital
composition software and Fractal Design's Paint (2D) and Detailer (3D) imaging
software.

System vendors demonstrating Alpha PCs and workstations in
Booth S3308 include Bushey Virtual Construction, Carrera Computers,
DeskStation Technology, Digital Equipment Corporation, Enorex
Microsystems, The Panda Project, and Polywell Computers.

MPEG Video Editing Demos

Digital Semiconductor is also cooperating with Innovacom Inc.,
and VITEC Multimedia to show MPEG-1 solutions using the 21230 video
codec. Innovacom is showing its 21230-based MPEG-1 capture and
authoring solution as well as its own MPEG-2 encoding and DVD
authoring tools. VITEC Multimedia is showing the MPEG-Cut Machine,
a complete MPEG-1 editing solution integrating the VITEC RT5 PCI
realtime encoder, VIDEO Clip MPEG and VIDEO CD authoring software.
