DIGITAL ANNOUNCES WIDE-CARRIAGE PRINTER FOR $599
LAS VEGAS, NV -- NOVEMBER 16, 1992 -- Digital Equipment Corporation
announced today a wide-carriage dot matrix printer aggressively
priced at $599. The wide-carriage LA310 MultiPrinter handles up to
five-part forms and includes simultaneously active interfaces,
emulation assignment by port, and automatic port sensing, which
enables seamless operation in mixed computing environments. The
LA310 printer is Digital's first dot matrix printer with these
resident capabilities. The announcement was made at Fall COMDEX,
which opens here today.
The advanced paper-handling features of the LA310 MultiPrinter,
including automatic paper parking, auto paper loading and zero tear,
make it an easy-to-use as well as economical printer.
A replacement for Digital's LA210 MultiPrinter, the new LA310
printer features faster speed, quieter operation, and twice the
reliability at roughly a third the price. The 300 cps printer
includes Epson, DEC ANSI PPL2 and IBM ProPrinter protocols and
prints ten national languages and bar codes. Paper handling
includes fan-fold, cutsheet, labels and envelopes.
"Digital's LA310 MultiPrinter is intended for billing and data
processing applications in manufacturing and accounting environments
requiring multipart forms," said Larry Cabrinety, vice president of
Digital's Video, Image and Print Systems Group. "This wide-carriage
printer has been designed with the reliability which customers in
these environments demand."
The 9-wire LA310 printer has the ability to print on up to
five-part forms (with optional tractor) and includes both serial and
parallel ports for seamless printing from terminals, workstations
and PCs. The printer's four print modes range from high-speed draft
to near letter quality.
With Digital's LATprint ThinWire Ethernet interface, the LA310
MultiPrinter can be shared by any desktop device in a ThinWire
Ethernet Local Area Network. With its wide carriage and multiple
protocols, the LA310 printer is an ideal shared printer.
The LA310 MultiPrinter is priced at $599 in single quantities.
The optional pull tractor is priced at $89 in single quantities.
Quantity discounts are available. Shipments begin in December.
The LA310 printer is available on a private label basis through
a program Digital announced in September to make enabling technology
available to a larger number of users through selected "innovation
vendors." These companies, including systems vendors and large
integrators, can now provide advanced printing technologies from
Digital in their own product offerings. Private label features
include software development, controller and other hardware
modifications to customer specification, user documentation, full
product branding and packaging, and support from Digital's Six Sigma
quality monitoring process.
