How much memory do I really have

Hi,
Just wondering why there is a difference in memory displayedwhen you use the
MEM command in DOS and the memory in the device manager in windows? For
example, when you type MEM in DOS you get the total memory and that is
different from the memory information in the device manager, i was wondering
why?
