I am Laxmikant, ‘Lacchoo’ then & even now to you all) and now ‘LUCKY’ in Mumbai and Thane!

Well I am a pediatric surgeon, operating on children right from day 1 age (yes - day 1!) to 18 yrs of age.

I was blessed enough to get this super speciality after my MBBS and MS in General Surgery from Nagpur, when  I passed my MCh exams at all India level when I stood 25th - I did my MCh in Pediatric surgery from the prestigious KEM hosp in Mumbai and now am in THANE since 2000.

Here I am a CONSULTANT attached at 2 big hospitals in Thane - one JUPITER hosp (300 bedded) and the other KAUSHALYA (150 bedded).

It was pure destiny that brought me to Thane - actually I decided to start practice here after a casual discussion in 1999 when I came to know that there was no residing pediatric surgeon here and that Thane is growing tremendously (and yes, it has!), thanks to the dynamic commissioner then - Mr Chandrashekar. Today, Thane is having appr. 16 -18 lakh population (city) and Thane district has 1.10 crore population! It boasts of at least 8 malls and 2 really huge ones! It has 16 lakes and a wild life sanctuary just 6 kms away too!

So here I landed – my initial life was difficult -staying as a PAYING GUEST FOR A YEAR, roaming about on a kinetic honda (I never knew how to drive a car;  learnt it later) and then settling down in my own flat. I have my own flat now; all EMI paid! My wife Dr Shital who is a MBBS, DGO, is a Medical officer in Civil Hospital – and Mental hosp here. My 2 children – both boys – one in 10th and other in 4th (Rudresh and Aditya) are typically ‘time pass’!

I feel privileged to operate on many variety of cases but my branch is tough – too many tears, from the child and also the parents. But of course, there are smiles that are a mile long too!

I had the blessing of God to publish 15 INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATIONS IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNALS and 4 of them are now text book references! I got a chance to present a scientific paper a few years ago amongst 500 pediatric surgeons and it won THE BEST SCIENTIFIC PAPER out of 250 papers in ALL INDIA CONFERENCE!

As I was then, I am as it is even today.

I am an active Rotarian since 10 years and love to give lectures on medical and non medical topics- in fact I have been invited  as GUEST SPEAKER  at 225 + forums in last 4 – 5 yrs; and had again the blessing to address a crowd of 1200 + at least 4 times and 700+ audience  at least 5 times!

I am continuing with my writing habit as AN EDITOR of 2 Rotary and 3 medical bulletins. In fact, a Rotary bulletin of my club has won 18 awards in last 9 years with me as an editor – 4 times it was the BEST IN ALL OVER INDIA out of 2800+ bulletins!

Lately, I have also realized my dream to create and organize life size themes, concepts, events. I was again blessed to do more creative - create theme events for about 25 events in last 4 years. I love it and have created huge backdrops with the concepts accordingly desired.

My inner urge was also partly realized when I learnt and still do yoga and pranayam daily with my children; my spirituality also seems to be a bit better when I experienced the 10 days VIPASSANA  and practice it too.

I love books and especially the ones by Vivekananda, Osho, Gita, Upanishads, Buddha and other such ones. It pleases me no end.

For me, I feel totally blessed. God has been absolutely kind; I could develop the wisdom to donate a part of my income every month for the poor and needy; Rotary has helped me a lot in this. I now want more link of spirituality with my living. In retrograde, I was a ‘darpok’ - stage fearing person and today God guided me that I could be a guest speaker at > 225 forums!

I want to travel more and perhaps this is the only wish that’s not very highly fulfilled by me.

Otherwise, I still feel fulfilled and with no complaints; my dreams were not very high and they are fulfilled – though my energy to do and the will to keep it up is as strong as ever.

I am happy that Grace has been kind enough to fill LIFE in the no. of years i have lived; not just the no. of years I have lived in life!
