Hello,

For most people, this mail would qualify as spam at first glance. For the select few, for whom it doesn't, I would kindly request you to go through the content and reserve judgement till the end.

All of you would have used Google Search, and most of you would be aware of certain Google Search shortcuts that you might have used on several occasions, knowingly or otherwise. For example, doing arithmetic calculations directly from the search bar, or getting stock values of companies without an explicit query.

What you do know however, is but the tip of a colossal iceberg; an iceberg that contains a battery of tricks and quirky features and Easter eggs that has been included to make your searching experience more friendly, more usable, and certainly more intuitive.

What use is all that iceberg if you aren't aware of all that lies hidden in it?

Nothing really. As a result, the fine folks at Google are starting a free online course that promises to enhance your searching experience, for ever.

Here are some quick details.
  • The course begins on 24th September 2012.
  • The course will be taken by Dan Russell, PhD, and a senior research scientist at Google Inc.
  • The course is free. Free as in free beer. You don't pay a paisa, a cent, a dime or a quarter for it.
  • The course is online. Which means you can lounge about in your room, in your bed, or in your armchair, while taking it. All you need is a decent Internet connection. The lectures will be dished out in the form of online videos.
  • The course is short. Just six lectures. Plus, you can watch the videos any time during a two week window.
  • There are a two assignments, which you are encouraged to complete. One, midway through the course, and one after the course ends.
  • You get certificates! From Google. Which has your name on it and certifies that you have completed and passed the course.
  • The course is in English. This point doesn't need much clarification.
For further details and for more information you can visit THIS PAGE. Or if I've done a good job at convincing you, you can register for the course HERE. Do reply to this mail in case of any queries, but I'm sure the links will remove all doubts that you might have.

Um, that's about it.

You are free to judge now.

Cheerio!
