Bitney Families and Community Members,

Here are your updates for the coming week.

School Attendance

We are in the middle of the winter cold and flu season and we know that many students and family members in our community have been getting ill.  We understand that when students are sick, especially if they have a fever, they need to stay home from school.   However, if your child is well enough to be at school, please make sure that they come to school.  When students miss school, they miss out on instruction and opportunities to learn. They often fall behind and their grades are affected.

Bitney Prep is a public charter school, we are chartered by the Nevada County School Board.  All of the funding that we receive to pay for operating our school is based on student attendance.  When a student is absent, whether or not they have a legitimate reason, we lose funding for that day.  The only exception to this loss of funding is when students are on independent study and they turn in work on the day of their absence. The California Department of Education considers any student who misses more than 10% of the days in a school year to be chronically absent.  At the midway point of our school year, 28% meet that criteria.  Thank you for helping us improve our overall student attendance.

BPHS WASC Family Survey

Bitney Prep is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).  Our accreditation establishes our school with other high schools and colleges.  This year, we are having an accreditation visit from a WASC Visiting Committee in early April.  WASC will use the visit to determine our accreditation status.  We are preparing the Self Study that we need to turn in to our visiting committee before our visit.  As a part of the self-study, we are gathering information from students, staff, and parents/guardians.  Information from these main stakeholders in our school is important to the self-study process.  The title above in blue is a link to the survey.  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and submit your answers.  The survey is anonymous.

Parent Council Meeting - Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 6:00 pm

The monthly meeting of the Bitney Prep Parent Council is this Wednesday at 6:00 pm.  We meet in the Office Building and all parents and guardians are welcome to join us.

Please contact us at school if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
