Shortening links

My company Is interested in a link shortener service. I am not sure how to go about and implement this. I have been reading some of the API docs but I kind of looking for a step by step of how to implement this in my organization.  SInce I hear that Bitly is in the cloud

I want to be able to further demonstrate myself hitting the URl using postman.   Who can help me get started. I have been researching for about two weeks and getting nowhwere.
