We just got our Motorola Droid and perused the Marketplace for recipe
and shopping list programs. The OI Shopping list seemed to be
popular, and while visiting their website, we learned about Bites.
Together, these apps appear to be just what we're looking for.
However, it's going to be rather tedious to have to type in all of our
favorite recipes via the Droid. Other than the few recipes on your
site, is there any recipe site that delivers recipes in the xml format
needed for Bites?

Alternatively, is there any easy way to convert recipes we find on the
various recipe sites into the xml format needed by Bites?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Hi Jeff,

As far as I know there are no other sites that offer Bites recipe files yet. I have made the recipe file format open in the hope that Bites users will publish their own recipes on their webpages and blogs.

To avoid the tedious task of typing in recipes on your phone you can create them as simple xml files in a text editor on any computer. See the recipe file entry http://code.google.com/p/bites-android/wiki/RecipeFileFormat in the Bites project wiki for a template you can use. You will end up creating one file for each recipe, these files can then be posted on a website for download to a phone or emailed to the gmail account used by your phone.

If you are posting a few recipes on a website I am more than happy to link to it from the Bites webpages if you send me a url.

Regards,

What exactly needs to be in the email that is sent to the Google email account?  Should the xml file be attached to the message or should the xml code be placed in the body of the message?  If in the message body, does the message need to be formatted as html or plain text?

Thanks,
Jeff

The recipe should be sent as an attachment. When this attachment is touched bites will open and load the recipe.
