Hi all,

I recently started a position that will require me to use BitCurator. IT set up a dedicated machine with the BitCurator environment, however, I've found that not all of the software tools included will launch. I'm pasting below the names of the tools as well as what displayed (if anything) when I tried to launch them. Also: the computer is not connected to the internet, so if any downloading is involved, I would need to do that on a different machine and transfer the contents. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Applications that won't launch:

BitCurator Reports (command line)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/bin/generate_report.py", line 26, in <module>

Hi Dillon,
I recommend to you the BitCurator Resources https://bitcuratorconsortium.org/resources/ that include How-to documents and the YouTube channel that has video instruction.  You might want to start with this recently released resource, "installation of BitCurator VM and intro to disk imaging assignment."

Hi Kari,

Thank you for your response, I will give these resources a look, hopefully they will help. I think the issues might stem from something during the installation process, so perhaps a re-install may help. For reference, we are running https://github.com/bitcurator/bitcurator-salt on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Thanks again,
Dillon

Hi Dillon,

There are a couple of issues that you’re running into with your setup. The main issue is that in the Quickstart guide, an internet connection during install is implied, but not explicit. Additionally, at this point, a machine not connected to the internet is not a supported use case.

If you want, you can tell us a little bit about your anticipated workflow and maybe the community can weigh in with recommendations.
