Hi everyone,
I’m pleased to announce the release of bulk_extractor 2.2.0.
Downloads are available at:
https://github.com/simsong/bulk_extractor/releases
This release includes precompiled Snap packages for amd64 and arm64, as well as Windows executables.
Version 2.2.0 closes more than 80 issues and fixes many longstanding bugs, including several uncovered during the work. It may also be faster, although the performance difference may not be noticeable in every workload.
I used AI-assisted development tools extensively during the update, alongside expanded automated testing and manual review. The test suite now reports 78% code coverage, up from 51%. That comparison is not exact, however, because 2.2.0 vendors be20_api, which was previously measured separately.
If you encounter a problem, please open a GitHub issue:

Next, I expect to focus either on further reliability improvements for 2.3 or on updating the GUI. There are currently two GUIs—the Java-based interface and a newer HTML-based interface. Both appear to be unmaintained, and I’m open to working on either one.
Regards,
Simson
