Hello BitCurator Users,

I'm looking for some help regarding an issue we are having with the processing workstation that runs BitCurator at my repository.  The workstation had no problems when I left for the holidays in mid-December.  However, when trying to run Bulk Extractor Viewer, I got an error message (pictured below) when I attempted to select a disk image.

I did some searching for anyone having similar issues and thought that maybe it was a Java issue similar to Carol Kussman's post from December.  I checked Java according to Kam's instructions and was even able to open Bagger successfully.

I thought that it may be a problem with BitCurator not knowing where to find the proper files, so I checked mount points and the relevant partitions in gparted and did make some changes to the fstab where partitions were not properly labelled/mounted.  Now when I open up Bulk Extractor Viewer I no longer receive the error message, but the scanners are still not showing up in the "Run bulk_extractor" window (see below).

Our workstation is running BitCurator 1.1.0 and has no additional software installed in BitCurator other than gparted.  I've attached the workstation specs in case that helps.

A recent Ubuntu update caused this issue. Either install the latest version of BitCurator (1.2.1, which includes many other fixes), or rebuild just the bulk_extractor tool from source by running the following commands in a terminal (hitting enter between each line):

cd /home/bcadmin/Tools/bulk_extractor

make clean

./configure --with-boost-libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu

make

sudo make install

Regards,

Kam

The bulk_extractor rebuild did the trick.  Everything seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for the help, Kam!

Best,
Nathaniel
