Powering a Tableau T356789iu write-blocker

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with or ideas about powering a Tableau T356789iu write-blocker so that it can be used with a laptop workstation? I recently purchased this device through eBay and we already had all the cords that a new kit includes, but I am having trouble determining if we have the accessories necessary for the write-blocker to turn on. If it is that we need to purchase an additional cable or adapter, I can't tell what we would need.

We already have:

TC2-8-R2 Molex to 3M Drive Power Cable
TC4-8-R3 Unified SATA/SAS Signal and Power Cable (3M)
TC6-8 IDE Ribbon Cable
TC-USB3 USB 3.0 A to B (9-pin) Cable, 6'
TC7-9-9 FireWire800 Cable

We also have a 4-pin molex power adapter already.

There's the option to purchase these additional accessories if buying the write-blocker new:

USB 3.0 19-pin to USB-B 18" cable
PCIe Adapters
SATA-IDE Adapters

Would one of these add-ons be the key for powering the write-blocker for use with a laptop, or something else entirely?

I believe that this device is designed to be powered off a motherboard as if it were a hard drive or optical drive. That’s what the Molex connector is. The idea is that you put it into a drive bay on tower PC.

I know this doesn’t “directly” answer your question, however on the same Silicon Forensics site you linked to, they show the same model but in an external configuration. As long as you have a way to convert the power connectors (possibly this, but do your own testing first), then you could potentially duplicate the external format.

 

However, I don’t believe the adapters you have will allow you to power the device using a laptop.
