All are welcome to attend the general BDAWG meeting from 2-3 PM Eastern on August 6. The Visioning Access Systems subcommittee will discuss their newest grant-funded project to investigate the intersection of access to born-digital content and artificial intelligence.

The general meeting will be followed by a two hour hackathon from 3-5PM to review and discuss areas of “The Legal and Ethical Considerations for Born-Digital Access” and create an action plan for updating this document to include considerations related to AI.

This event is open to everyone, regardless of AI experience, with an interest in the topic. The hackathon will begin with a broad discussion of how the Visioning Access Systems grant project may inform the editing of this document. Smaller group work will then focus on the review of specific sections with the meeting ending with reports from those groups and a discussion of next steps.

The Legal Due Diligence subcommittee was established in 2020 to assess issues around privacy, copyright, and other legal risks related to providing access to born-digital archival records, and to share this assessment in a centralized place. As a result of this group's collaborative research effort, “The Legal and Ethical Considerations for Born-Digital Access” was published in June of 2022.

Many thanks to Tori Maches (BDAWG Co-chair), Jessica Breiman, Steven Gentry, and Christina Velazquez Fidler for helping plan this event!

Best,
Nicole (BDAWG Co-chair)
