Delving Bitcoin forum post: Analyzing Mining Pool Behavior to Address Bitcoin Core’s Double Coinbase Reservation Issue

Surfacing a Delving Bitcoin post that may be of interest to this group. 

Ismael Sadeeq published analysis of historical block weight units as part of ongoing work to fix the coinbase double-reservation bug in bitcoin core (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/21950). His analysis was shared to determine the feasibility of the proposed fix, found here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/31384 . 

The potential fix would allow block template creators (e.g. mining pools) to have another 4000 WU worth of transactions; however, there is a risk that it could result in invalid blocks being created by those block template creators that do not account for the change (https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/31384#pullrequestreview-2489253785).
