Dear Bitcoin Core Translation Community,

We would like to inform you of an upcoming change in our approach to the translation subproject concerning territory-specific translations. Please note the following actions that will be taken:

  1. No New Territory-Specific Language Requests:
Moving forward, the project will not accept any new requests for translations using territory-specific identifiers (for example, fr_CA). We will now look to focus on base language codes instead.

  2. Gradual Phasing Out of Existing Territory-Specific Translations:
The current territory-specific translations will be phased out progressively. We will begin this process with the French translation, as the French localisation team has confirmed that the `fr` translation represents the international variant of French.

These measures are intended to simplify our localisation process, reduce maintenance overhead, and ensure a more consistent user experience across all languages. We appreciate the efforts and contributions of our translation teams and community, and we are confident that this transition will ultimately benefit all users.

Thank you for your continued support. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us via Transifex, IRC or email.
