Hi all
First, apologies from both of us for being quiet lately and not announcing anything so far in the new year. I’ve been busy moving and Max has been juggling a lot of projects. Good news is we’re now both getting much more settled and have a lot more time to dedicate to the group. Here’s where we’re at.
# No Feb meetup
There won’t be a February meetup due to lack of… planning. We did put out some requests for speakers but couldn’t arrange anything in time. We hope you all make it through the long dark winter of plunging Bitcoin prices nonetheless.
# Speaker lined up for Spring
Good news is we do have one speaker lined up, unfortunately she isn’t available until later in the year, hopefully some time in April if we can find a date, if not then probably May.
# Call for speakers
We’re still actively looking for a speaker for March. If you have an idea for a topic, please drop us a line, or throw an idea out here. You don’t need to be a Bitcoin expert to speak, all you need is an idea and an ounce of courage (or two pints of beer). Some of the best discussions we’ve had have been started with very little prep.
Alternatively, is there someone you’d like to hear speak? Throw out your suggestions, no matter how wild (Max Keiser may be a stretch, but we can always ask) and we’ll see what we can do. It could be someone from a Bitcoin business, an academic researcher, someone with a political interest (the Governor of the Bank of England, maybe?) or just someone you think has an interesting opinion.
# Bitcoin Raffle
We still have the Bearwhale poster from the December meetup! Due to a technical problem with one of the entries we couldn’t draw the winner on the night, and we haven’t had a meetup since. We’ll sort this before the next meetup and plan it around that. We have more raffle prizes in store for 2015 too, so the more speakers we have, the faster we can give them out =)
# Bitcoin Services … as a Service
One last note, we’re now investigating what services we can offer as a group. As a start, Max is now looking into ways of easily brining up our own Bitcoin full nodes (full virtual server and bitcoind/btcd application). We’ll operate one ourselves, and document how others can use it. If anyone wants to know more, or has any comments, please shout.
All the best, Bitcoiners
Ash & Max
