This might be a good idea: my understanding is that Docker does a
pretty good job of encapsulating system dependencies, while still
being lighter-weight than distributing a complete VM. However my sense
is that Docker is still far from ubiquitous in academic circles, so at
the moment the number of people who would benefit from it might be
limited.
I think it might be helpful to split this desire up into two halves:
first the idea of packaging TEMU and Vine as a Docker image, and
second the specific request that the Docker image be based on Ubuntu
14.04. Though Ubuntu 14.04 is a good baseline for current work, you've
probably noticed that TEMU and Vine are somewhat behind the times, so
a separable first step might be to create a Docker image based on an
older Linux distribution. The 1.0 releases go all the way back to
Ubuntu 9.04, which may be too old for Docker, but for instance Ubuntu
12.04 has so far been better tested. The topic of porting to Ubuntu
14.04 is I think the subject of your other recent message, so I'll
reply to that separately.
