I stumbled upon a, perhaps, very useful article in the Microsoft KB

Alas, the document does not have an article number. I found it when
searching for info and the article got included in the list of 60 articles
found satisfying my search criteria.

The article is titled:

Microsoft Word -- General Switches for Field codes

It does not state to which Word versions it applies, nor is there a date on
the article.

I printed the article and the URL seems to be:

http://support.microsoft.com/support/word/usage/fields/generalswitches.asp?F
R=0

Not sure what the ?FR=0 means.

If Microsoft would make such articles available in a single place, oh yes,
and tell us how to find them, I imagine a lot of the "clutter" in the KB
could be eliminated.
