Hi!

Could anyone help me out on the differences between the Professional and
"standard" versions of Visual Basic 3.0? For example, what extra capabilities
does the Professional version have? I am starting to get into Windows
programming so I want to get the right product from the outset. The Pro
version is twice the cost so I don't want to make a mistake!

Well Des, the engine is the same engine, but VBPro has many additional bells &
whistles that make it better for real programming. You get very powerful DB
management commands, many visual controls such as 3D widgets and comms VBX,
and, maybe the most important, you get the Windows SDK Help file (3MB) and
a VB-specific file with VB declaration of Windows constants, calls and
structures. You also get the Control DevKit, the help compiler and other small
kudos such as more bitmaps and icons.
Yossi.

I have purchased the standard version of VB 3.0. It is quite powerful.
It allows you to build some fairly advanced applications. The
professional Edition allows more access into the commands that create
DDL's and retrieve info from the operating system. If you are just
starting out in programming, the standard version supplies enough
versility and challenges for a beginner.
