Fellow netters,
Have been wanting to setup up Eudora, Panda, whatever, for a local mail
reader, but I need a POP'er mail server to do it. Anybody know of a public
one I can get into? TIA!
"Mercury" written by David Harris provides a POP3 server.
It runs as a NLM on Novell Netware. It is also doing much
more. You can get a copy by FTPing to :
risc.ua.edu -> pub/networks/pegasus/merc112.zip (I guess)
Get PEGASUS as well... In my opininon it is mich better
than EUDORA.

Just to make sure you understand what you need, in order for this to
work you will need to run a POP server program on your mail server
machine. You cannot use a "POP server" out on the net to give you
access to it. If your mail server is a Unix box, the POP server
source code is on an FTP site that UC Berkely runs (I have forgotten
the address). It is very easy to install.

There are actually 2 commonly used POP3 Daemons: pop3d and popper.
Both can be found on most archie servers. (I use archie.sura.net, telnet and
login as qarchie)
I use popper, it was easier to compile on my UnixWare box.

Does anybody know of the adress or ranywhere else this program can be
found. I have been wwondering about POP and how to configure our
HP-server. Thought POP was a part of tthe operrating system. HP manuals
are verry thorough but things are hard to find if one doesn't know where
to look. Just thought I hadn't found the right manual yet.
Thanks in advance
