I was trying out some new SOAP transactions and received the
following message for the first time in my career (and I've only been
working with CICS/TS a little over a year):

DFHSM0133 CICSDATA CICS is under stress (short on storage above 16MB).

I understand the message, but my question is more what kind of
metrics should I look at; what other kinds of adjustments can I make; or,
is it sufficient to just take the advice of the message manual and
increase the ESDALIM system initialization parameter?

At the time I got the message I issued the following command but
could not get into the CICS partition to look at any thing else because it
was hung:

Note that the above was in my TEST LPAR. In the Production LPAR,
the same CICS looks as follows. The difference should be indicative of
the difference in the number of files concurrently open and the amount of
activity.

Corrected subject spelling. I also checked by SIT and have
EDSALIM=64M.

It appears that you can increase your EDSA by 6M (11300-4724) before you
would need to increase the partition size.

Hello Dave,

Do you have the STAT (ICCF library 59 DFH0STAT) defined?
I used the base code in our PRD1.CICSTS lib to change the defaults, but
basically it does the same as IBM's DFH0STAT.

Gives you stats on the fly and at shutdown.

Using STAT (ours is ATAT) you should be able to monitor what is
going on in your EDSA an DSA.
