Does anyone have a 3390 Equal-Length Physical Records Without
Keys Chart. It shows the minimum and maximum record sizes for
1, 2, 3 ... records per track. I have not been to locate it on any of
the online manuals that I have access to.

TIA

Russ,

Pasted to the email is the table that you're
looking for.

B.1.2 Using the 3390 Track Capacity Table (Without Keys)

Use Figure 49 to find out how track (or cylinder) space is used for
fixed-length physical records of a specific data length (DL):

1. Use the Data Length Range column on the left side of the table to
select the range that includes the length of the record.

2. Use the Percent Space Used column to determine what percentage of the
track or cylinder would be occupied with user data if the track
contains the maximum number of records, each of which has the maximum
data length for the data length range.

3. Read the number of records that can fit on a track or a cylinder from
the Maximum Track Capacity or Maximum Cylinder Capacity columns,
located at the right-hand side of the table.

Example: A physical sequential data set is to be moved from a 3380 to a
3390. The data set contains forty thousand 80-byte records, allocated in
27 200 half-track blocks. Each block holds 340 records. The data set
currently occupies 59 tracks (4 cylinders) on the 3380.

Figure 49 shows that the 27 200 half-track block size corresponds to a
data length range of between 18 453 to 27 998. Two of those blocks will
fit on a 3390 track. The number of tracks or cylinders required for the
data set will, therefore, be the same as shown below:

340 = number of 80-byte records/27200 half-track block
x 2 = number of 27200 blocks/track
---
680 = number of 80-byte records/track

40000 (number of records in data set)
------------------------------------- = 59 number of tracks
680 (number of records/track) (rounded up to the next
integer)

If allocated in cylinders, the number required will be:

59 (number of tracks)
------------------------------ = 4 number of cylinders
15 (number of tracks/cylinder) (rounded up to the next integer)
