I would love to learn what I can do to make this problem go away. I think the list admin thinks the "bad format" message is sufficient, but it's not enough to give me a clue as to what's wrong.
Today I set Mail Preferences for Internet mail to use only plain text, but it wasn't enough to stop the message from getting bounced.
I'd be grateful for any clues that would help me get back online.
Another problem is that I can't use Yahoo or any other free email client at work - or even Google Groups?! So I'll just be listening on Monday for any responses to this plea, but without any way to reply to the list. Ain't Security great?

I am using 6.5.1 and don't have any problems. I did this reply "using
internet style history" (like real email clients), but a regular
Notes "top reply" works also. After you changed your Notes settings,
did you exit out of Notes completely and get back in before trying
it again (not that I know if it is required or not)? Did you try
sending a Notes email to you personal address or your yahoo address
to see what it looked like?

Mark

I see these lines when I do a reply, but I don't know of any way to avoid them. In this message, I tried to reply after restarting Notes. I can also see what appears to be the Subject in what I would call a text box - even though it has no border.
I'm guessing that when I send an email via Notes and there's an "@" character, it treats it as an "internet message"; I know of no Notes messages that use this character.
Lionel, I'm using Notes on something other than z/OS, and I'm quite sure we're not going out via z/OS.
Thank you both for your quick replies.

Your posting to the TSO-REXX list has been rejected because it only contains
material in a format disallowed by the list configuration. Even though the list
is configured to remove unwanted material and process the remaining text, in
this case there would be nothing left after removing the disallowed material.
You may want to resend your message in plain text, which is always allowed.

I do it frequently - sending e-mail from Notes to z/OS where I can look at
the entire e-mail in TSO/ISPF browse and it works fine.
You said it used to work so something has changed somewhere.
I'd start with looking in the z/OS SMTP Logfile (use a spool viewer such
as SDSF, IOF, or (E)JES) for any messages around the time you expected the
e-mail from Notes to have been delivered to your z/OS TSO session. If you
don't see anything then it is possible that it is being rejected somewhere
else.
Can you include the error messages that you are seeing in Notes when the
e-mail bounces?

I don't use TSO to do email; I use Windows. The notes server may be on z/OS, but I wouldn't know what spool file to look for. I'll check started tasks. I've lerned enough not to reject ideas such as this out of hand by now, so I'll see what I can see. But I worked at a place that had Notes, but not z/OS. I just thought they used AIX to run the server.
Being offline to my company, I can look at Google Groups, and I can see this posting, and ones I did in November. The ones in November don't have the lines:

I know of no way in yahoo to examine headers and other details.
Thanks for your support, Lionel. Gonna check z/OS now.

Anyway, I know I've used Lotus Notes with this listserv at various times,
but not currently (I'm a contractor and move from installation to
installation) so I'm no good to you in that regard. My contribution is to
point out that if you want to badly enough, you can send email from your
workstation without going through either Notes or any of the disallowed
web-based email sites. There's more than one way to do it, and others here
can provide more detail than I can, but I can think of two ways for sure:
telnet from Windows, and XMITIP from the mainframe. Neither one is very
complex; I know more about the latter, but someone showed me how the former
works, and if anything it's the simpler of the two. Just an idea,
definitely in the kludgy-workaround category while you're trying to fix the
problem.

Are there any Notes users who can send/reply to TSO-REXX? My company uses
Notes 6.5.5, and all my replies are rejected because of a format problem.
Until recently, I had no problem. Our Notes support folks don't know of
anything that they did that would have changed how mail goes out.

Assuming you have the IBM TCP/IP Stack then look at your z/OS SMTP Server
started task and look at the LOGFILE DD where you can see messages
indicating all outgoing and incoming e-mail. If you do not have the z/OS
SMTP started task then you can not receive e-mail on z/OS TSO REXX.
Does this help clarify.

I send to tso-rexx listserv all the time from my lotus notes client
Because of this "problem", when I thought I could help with a question, I've been sending directly to members. In keeping with the spirit of the law, I guess I should stop even that. I only learned what the problem was because I happened to bump into my Director on Friday who had been getting notices from Security, and informed me of this "chat" idea.
I no longer contribute to IBM-MAIN - or even listen, because *in my opinion* its traffic has too high a drivel-to-business ratio than either TSO-REXX or ISPF-L which are nearly 100% biz. This past week, I had a SAS Data step problem that really had me stumped. As a former Systems Programmer, I feel I can research a problem, and handle it myself - especially with something as wholesome as SAS; any problem is a User Error. But finally, I joined the list, hammered out the problem with some kind soul using the handle data_null_ in less than a day. Such risky behavior is too high a price for success.
All free emails are also verboten. My Director's solution to this is to do the research on my own time. I've been doing this for the past two years, because Google Groups are also blocked via the company network.
I understand the need for security - especially at a company such as this one. No one wants to hear that 150 million soshes escaped this company's domain - no one - especially the security folk whose job it is to help save the company from such exposure.
Anyway, I'll be out of here in June - I'm teaching some of our brothers from India how to do my job. They're really great people, anxious to learn, and very hard-working. Hey, that sounds like me too! I must be missing something.
I want to thank everyone for all their perseverance in helping me in my company's times of need, providing so many inspired solutions, and sharing their and their nation's wealth of knowledge and experience.
Don't be surprised come July, if you should see that it's me serving you a Mocha Frappuccino - I understand they have pretty good benefits.
