There are those who love to wax eloquent; and I admit that I am one.

As part of the thread "Mechanisms for passing stems...", Kevin McGrath made
some excellent points and closed by saying "This isn't the place for
doctrinal purity". A curious statement that I would challenge. I feel this
discussion group is the exact forum for espousing one's basic tenets.

Insofar as systems design and programming is concerned, everyone should
formulate a foundation of principles based upon many critereon including
mistakes (own and others). These doctrines should become personal. They
should be strengthened through challenge and discussion and that is where
discussion groups come to the fore; that is one of the underlying reasons
why I subscribe to this list.

Points taken. I only object to mandated uniformity, not the pursuit (or discussion!) of personnel probity.

Frank,
In all fairness to Robin, that error was in my text. My wife, who
is a back seat critic, said of our exchange....

<wife>
If you guys are going to quibble about such nits, then, the
Editor in me is obliged to add some minor commentary:

re: only object
I am glad to know that, in addition, you do not go to the
extreme of "hunting down and killing" the advocates of
policies and practices with which you do not agree in the
workplace, as well as in the home! Perhaps, however, you
meant to say, "I object only to ...."

re: "personnel"
Your HR Department(s) must be very proud!

And, for your correspondent:

re: "systems design and programming is concerned"
I am sure that they ARE concerned!

re: "many critereon"
I know! It's all Greek to you! But really! The Greeks
were consistent!
CriteriON. SINGuLar. ONE!
CriteriA. PlurAl.. MAny!
</wife>

I told her we this is is why we "hunt down and kill" any
technical writer that joins the list. DG&R ;-)

Not I. She's a much better money-manager than I am... I'd be broke
without my wife. (I'd also be a childless computer nerd...)
