If it isn't clear what you think is wrong here: you say "a different date
altogether". Different from what?

But from the output, it doesn't seem that you're running the code you think
you are anyway: the output (below) suggests that the comparison is matching,
yet the displayed values clearly aren't. I also ran this (forcing ZLM4DATE
to the 2013/04/11 value) and, as expected, got no MEMLIST.I output.

The first line of your code doesn't do anything, btw -- you reset TODAY in
the next line anyway.

Thanks Phil,

From the advice from Ren Brenton, I learned and am using

TODAY = Insert('/',Insert('/',Date('S'),4),7), but you state

that my first line of code doesn't do anything:

>TODAY = DATE('STANDARD')

>TODAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S'),4),7)

I ran several tests and sure enough, you are right. I was just thinking

that if I did not use the standard line, how would it know it was not

ordered? But it works for ordered, standard or by itself.

As far as my comment about the dates being different, from the below
displayed

output, the highlight red dates are both ZLM4DATE and should have been
the

same, but weren't. Anyway, somehow I have it fixed now. Thanks to all
for the

help.

>COMPARE = 2013/04/11

>TODAY = 2013/04/15

>AAAAAAA 2010/10/22 2010/12/20 16:19:12 01 01 SYSMAS1

I have code that looks as such:

TODAY = DATE('BASE') generates 734974
YESTERDAY = TODAY - 1 generates 734973

Then I do some compares, then have to display the dates in a report.
For the TODAY date, I use
TODAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S'),4),7) which generates 2013/04/17
which is the format I want it to be displayed in. But I can't find how
to change YESTERDAY's date to that format. When I use the command
YESTERDAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S'),4),7 it changes the
yesterday
date to today's date. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks!

I'm seeing:

TODAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S'),4),7)
YESTERDAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S'),4),7

They're identical except for the lack of a final parenthesis in the latter expression (presumably a typo). Why would the results be different?

He's trying to convert the date representation 734974 back to CCYY/MM/DD. I don't know of any way to do that.

I'm also not sure that this representation is really a day count. I haven't looked it up, but I'm skeptical.

YDAY = DATE('B')-1
YESTERDAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S',YDAY,'B'),4),7)

The DATE function uses S as the output format and B as the input format of YDAY.

You could also use the following but it's a little harder to follow:

YESTERDAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S',DATE('B')-1,'B'),4),7)

My first response is in error. It will work in the middle of a month but if you think about it it won't work on the 1st day of a month. I caught the error after I hit send. You should really use the following if you want it all on one line:

YESTERDAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S',DATE('B')-1,'B'),4),7)

Incidentally, the manual states:

Note: The base date of 1 January 0001 is determined by
extending the current Gregorian calendar backward (365
days each year, with an extra day every year that is
divisible by 4 except century years that are not
divisible by 400). It does not take into account any
errors in the calendar system that created the Gregorian
calendar originally.

I was looking at yesterday's responses and I think I like the Translate version a little better. One less set of parens to deal with:

YESTERDAY = TRANSLATE('ABCD/EF/GH',DATE('S',DATE('B')-1,'B'),'ABCDEFGH')
YESTERDAY = INSERT('/',INSERT('/',DATE('S',DATE('B')-1,'B'),4),7)

Enjoy.

I have been testing my REXX explicitly since I don't know JCL very well.
My command 'EX 'SYSMAS1.SPF.REXX(REXXJCL)' works well and I am learning
more about REXX. But now I need to process this REXX in batch mode, so
guess what, I need to use a JCL job. It seems to me to process a REXX in
batch mode is a little different than our normal batch process's here,
especially since we don't have any REXX batch processes. From a book,
I found a few examples, and finally choose the below:

//SYSMAS1J JOB (1800),Z10,CLASS=A,NOTIFY=SYSMAS1,MSGCLASS=X,REGION=64M
//JSTEP010 EXEC PGM=IKJEFT01,
// PARM='REXXJCL'
//SYSEXEC DD DSN=SYSMAS1.SPF.REXX,
// DISP=SHR
//ISPPLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=ISP.SISPPENU
//ISPMLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=ISP.SISPMENU
//ISPTLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=ISP.SISPTENU
//ISPSLIB DD DISP=SHR,DSN=ISP.SISPSENU
//SYSTSPRT DD DSN=SYSMAS1.SPF.SYSOUT1,
// DISP=(NEW,CATLG,CATLG),
// UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(TRK,(200,20),RLSE),
// DCB=(RECFM=FBA,LRECL=121,BLKSIZE=0)
//SYSTSIN DD DUMMY
//*
//

When I process this job, JSTEP010 receives an RC 8 and the data set
produced
'SYSMAS1.SPF.SYSOUT1' contains:

********************************* Top of Data
*****************************
8 *-* ISPEXEC "LMINIT DATAID(DATID) DATASET('"PDSNAME"') ENQ(SHR)"

+++ RC(-3) +++

ERROR INITIALIZING PDS SYSMAS1.SPF.JCL RC=-3

READY

END

******************************** Bottom of Data
***************************
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks David,

I tried using the JCL you suggested, but got confused. I did find
another

method and I think I have that working. But I have another issue now.

My first step is my REXX program that calculates if a JCL has been
changed

by comparing the ZLM4DATE's. If the date has been changed, I want to
execute

the e-mail step and that is working good. But if there has been no JCL

change, I want to bypass the e-mail step. I'm not sure how to do this.

I have read about COND codes and I'm not sure if the REXX program can

be used to change a COND code depending on date checks? Thanks for any

advice.

Thanks!

Mike,
I do the same kind of thing with my code. If there are errors found, I do an EXIT 4. Then in my GENER JCL step, I use COND=(0,EQ,error check step) and it only E-Mails me the error logs if there are errors.

Depending on your environment, you might want to use something other than 4. That's a pretty standard return code that might get confused with other things, but it works for me for what I need.

Thanks,
Dave K.

Don't use cond in jcl - you can write a much simpler if statement these days
- refer to the manual for the proper syntax but basically it's:
IF RC=4 THEN
<JOB STEP>
ENDIF

My project is working now. It is e-mailing to my bosses in test mode.
One last problem. The e-mail has a RC error and a 'file preallocated (no
free was done) message. At the bottom of my REXX I have.

ISPEXEC "LMMLIST DATAID("DATAID") OPTION(FREE)"
ISPEXEC "LMCLOSE DATAID("DATAID")"

My e-mail sent looks as such. Please let me know if you see my problem.

Do you LMFREE the dataid, and does your REXX end with EXIT CODE(0)?
