None of the PDS member copy utilities, nor using execio, seem to preserve or
create any user data, yet 3.3 does so I'm wondering if that edits the
directory blocks directly, something I'm not keen to do.

Use the ISPF LMMSTATS service. Go to DejaNews at
http://www.dejanews.com/home_ps.shtml and search for LMMSTATS, I'm pretty
sure you'll find some examples. You can also look at the VIEWSAVE (VSAVE)
EDIT macro in file 183 of the CBT tape at http://cbttape.org

For my macros you can get to both documentation and source code from
http://members.aol.com/dmcritchie/nclist.htm
which is the last stop on my Tour. From that point you look at specific
macros.
@DIRSTAT Getting ISPF statistics within the current member in Edit. Uses ISPF
LMMSTATS
@DIR (is CLIST not REXX) was my workhorse for editing members, making
changes to edited members, making directory lists, etc. See documentation it
was started from the clist equivalent of ALLMEM and I added too much function
to convert to REXX since it was only good for TSO.
HTH, Beyond pages with brief descriptions of all of my macros most of my pages
are not indexed by search engines. This was to reduce multiple redundant hits
for macros especially by people who aren't looking for REXX macros.

Thanks for these, and to other repliers. I worked out just after posting that
SAVE in a macro does the trick. However, I ought to look at LMMSTATS in case
the files are large & it might be more efficient. I'm writing a 'copy member'
that sets the stats to the time & who of the copy rather than carrying over
the stats for the original member or leaving them blank.
