NYC budget accommodations

I will be in NYC for two weeks starting next week and will be staying
at the Hotel Beverely 125 50th st

This appeared some time ago on the list. I can't vouch for
ANY of the information personally.......these could be good deals or
slums......I don't know.

Sleeping:

The accomodation situation in New York
has been improving over the last few
years. There are plenty of youth hostels
scattered throughout Manhattan and
cheap hotels as well where you can get a
double room for $60-$100.

All the accomodations listed below are in
Manhattan. Each listing includes the
name, location, neigborhood, phone
number, and approximate price of the
establishment. The listings are in
alphabetical order. Because I live here I
have never stayed in any of the
accomodations listed so I can't make any
statement about the quality.

Hostels: Provide dormitory style
accomodation where anywhere from 4 to
12 people sleep in one room. Americans
may be asked to prove that they are bona
fide travellers. This list based on the 1995
Hostel Handbook. For a complete list of

Hotels: These are regular hotels although
unlike standard American hotels many
offer rooms with shared baths. Some
also have kitchenettes in the rooms. The
hotels listed below represent really good
value for New York. You might have
heard that you can't get a clean, safe
hotel room for less that $200 a night but
this is not true.
