I notice that many people refer to "England" when they really mean "UK" or
"Great Britain" (eg. see above, Aberdeen and Swansea are not in England).
News media reports refer to "The Queen of England" which is true, but only
a part of what she is Queen of, a bit like referring to the President of
California :-) Referring to "England" for the entire country is quite a
sore point for natives of the rest of UK.

it is also a sore point with those of us English who are not prejudiced
against the Scots, Welsh and Irish - but get fed up with being blamed for
badly educated Americans calling everything England. It is just as annoying to
have "England"(/GB) limited to London, Cambridge, Oxford, Stonehenge etc -
what about all tho other great places throughout Britain ??
