Does anybody have food, tour points, etc. for Anchorage? We will be going
there in early September. We will be going to Denali, but have little info
on Anchorage and the immediate area. Thanks

The earthquake museum was fun & the food at an on-the-street restaurant
about 2 blocks away was great (don't know the name, but it's around the block
from the wall painting of the whale)

My husband Mike and I were in Anchorage in the summer of 1993.
We stayed at the Alaska Samavar Inn, 720 Gambell 99501, telephone 277-1511
( I don't know the area code). I particularly enjoyed the Museum of
history and Art. There was a wonderful painting of Mt. McKinly by Sydney
Laurence at the museum. We ate at some very good restaurants, but I did
not write down the names. My favorite was an Indian restaurant. We went
to a flea market on Saturday morning that was fun, down by the water.
Enjoy your trip.

I live in Anchorage and would recommend seeing our museum - which is fine
arts/history of Alaska, has a restaurant, walk thru Town Square, center
of town, see Ship Creek (watch Salmon jump up the fish ladder) close to
downtown, walk on the Coastal Trail, paved and from downtown to airport
along the water, need a B&B? over 400 in Anchorage area, recommend
Aurora Winds B&B, as for food, where are you staying in Anchorage? in
downtown try Glacier Brewing Co (large menu and 4 homemade beers), Simon
and Seafort - fish and meat items, Saks on Fifth Avenue - charming
food/servers. or Humpys - across the street from Town Sq and 38 micro
brews on tap and tasty reasonable food, like Caesar salad with salmon for
$7.95.
