Pronunciation of "ch"

Geoffrey Astbury raised the question of the pronunciation of "ch" in
"schedule" and in "leprechuan".
Perhaps related to this is the pronunciation of "ch" in words like
"ache"," stomach", and "monarch" as opposed to
"rich", "latch", and "leech".
Suggestions ?
