meaning of "holiday" in Canada

"Does "holiday" mean "vacation" in Canadian English (as it does in British
English), or does it mean "one special day" as it does in the USA?"
I'm a native speaker from the West Coast of Canada (usage may be regional)
and I tend to use "holiday(s)" more frequently than "vacation" when talking
about a break longer than one day, for example: summer holidays (break from
school), "being/going on holiday" (annual break from work). Often we use
the term "stat" or "stat holiday" (short for statutory) to talk about those
all-too-infrequent one-off "special days" that allow us a day off with pay.
