we are having a big problem that needs assistance.
We need to implement a new background image into our manual (done on
masterpage), but at the same time we have some instructional graphics on
the foreground (done on bodypage). We always use anchor frames to fix the
bodypage graphics in places. Now when bodypage graphics overlap with the
masterpage image, we can see not only the bodypage graphics, but also its
white background. The white background simply destroys the visual effects
of the masterpage image. I don't know whether we can resolve this problem
within FM, or we have to re-design a masterpage image. How can we get rid
of that white background coming with the bodypage graphics?
No, taking out the masterpage image is not a solution, said the big boss.
The boss wants a nice masterpage image in the manual.
We would be grateful if anyone can come up with a solution. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Deb and her colleagues, Jeremy and David :-)

It could be that the anchored frame has a background color set to white.
Try setting that to none. After that, if the graphics still have
background in them (white surrounding the image), you might try making
them transparent - I believe you can do that in PhotoShop or
Illustrator. I've never had to worry about this, so I'm not sure.
The point is, there are two possible sources of your problem - the
anchored frame background (or fill) color, and then the graphic itself.
As a Frame Weenie, I can only vouch for the anchored frame.
Hope this helps...

Someone has run off with my FrameMaker documentation, but isn't it the overprint
settings for the anchored frame and the graphic on the bodypage that determines
whether the master page graphic will be hidden or not?
Check in the object properties for the bodypage graphic and anchored frame.

If you're referring to GIFs with transparent backgrounds, I don't think that
transparent backgrounds are supported by FrameMaker import filters. This is
covered in the Adobe FrameMaker _Using Filters_ online manual.

thanks for your answers. We tried the overprint setting, but it isn't
working. The white ground stays there persistently (wish I were as
persistent at some crucial moments!)
At the same time, I'd like to elaborate our situation better:
Both masterpage and bodypage graphics are in eps format. The bodypage
graphics were line drawings, illustrating how to use the device (install,
etc). Our in-house art designer drew them using Corel Draw, and we turned
them into eps format.
But the masterpage graphics was originally done with Adobe Illustrator by
an external design house. We got the graphics in eps format.
We have tried a few different settings in FM, but it looks like we are
fighting a losing battle.
Any more solutions/suggestions anyone care to come up with? Thank you!
Best Regards,
Deb
