I am wondering what the difference is between a moderate injury and a severe
injury.

Leslie, from "Living with Brain Injury" by Senelick and Ryan

This is more than a minor, slight bump in the head. It means the person
has been unconscious from 15 minutes to 24 hours.

As a rule, a patient who has Post Tramatic Amensia for less than one
hour is diagnosed as having a mild head injury. One to 24 hours
translates into moderate head injury. Anything longer than 24 hours
is considered severe.

In severe head injury, brain damage will be deep and diffuse, and the
victim will be poorly responsive for at least one day. He will have
physical deficits; he will ahve muscle coordination problems, andmay be
paralysed or spastic.

Leslie and others these are not my opinions just definitions from a
book. I hope it helps.

A moderate injury is usually one in which there is no loss of consciousness
whereas a severe injury is usually one in which there is a substantial
period in which the individual is unconscious.
