>WHO CARES?
I found this original message very interesting. I found it also very
interesting, when I worked in Vietnam to know that General Giap was
still living, although he had reached a very respectable age. I also
saw one of his beautiful daughters once and she was rather much a look
alike. I guess all persons that have taken part in a countrys history
will attract interest, however, it seems as usual that there are
always someone that disagrees.
The vietnamese elections have attracted some attention in this list.
First it=B4 s a rather interesting system that the vietnamese have
constructed - it seems as a mixture of 80 % communism and 20 %
democracy of the Grecian type - individuals rather than parties. They
must, however, ensure in the future that the 20 % non-party members are
freely choosen by the people. I think this model might be interesting.
The non-party members, which dont belong to any party, can have an
important role as they can from their daily lifes experiences try to
point out errors in society, which a party might have difficulty to see
and admit. I think this stronger link to reality is what is needed in
Vietnam to speed up the transition to more market orientation. Many on
this list strongly emphase democracy and of course it=B4s important, but=
most important for Vietnam is to improve the economy to guarantee food
and health supply to the people. The annual income in Vietnam is
approx. 200 USD per capita and year. Which party would you vote on if
you had this income? Note also that there seems to be little experience
of democracy in Vietnam the last 30 years or ever?
Sincerely Yours
