I have to buy the basic equipment, and the cool looking lifetime
gaurantee Mares fins are only $25 more than the Tusa or Sea Quest
ones I was looking at ($90 instead of $65). If I am not going to
be diving much, do you think it is still worth the extra $25?
Ofcourse the guy at the shop said they propel you better or some
nonsense like that. Any opinions?
Thanks,

marty,
no matter how hard you try, you're simply not going to be able to put together
the perfect gear combo the very first time. all you can do is get gear that
fits and has a good reputation for satisfaction for the type of diving you plan
on doing. you may also want to consider anticipating future diving requirements
and get gear that typically covers multiple platforms (ie allowing for your
growth as a scooby diver).
once you get a bit of experience and have time to really evaluate your gear's
features, benefits, and drawbacks, you can really begin to taylor your outfit to
what you need.
those three equipment lines are all quality lines, and it's not nonsense about
the mares fins giving excellent propulsion. don't know if you were here when
we discussed fins the last couple times, but the mares fins scored pretty high
with all who used them. instructors and DM's and a first mate i know all like
them because they can effortlessly chase down wandering students as well as make
rapid rescues. 60F/15C water temps? they use them there, too (they're full-
foot fins). they feel the price (half-frozen feet) is well worth the benefits.
in your post (above) you referenced "cool looking" fins. you gonna be a fashion
diver or a real diver? ;-)

Never underestimate the importance of looking good when you dive!
For my money I would get the Mares. Greet fins and worth the extra $25
dollars over the life of the fin. I have them and love them.
You didn't list one that is as good as the Mares is the USD Blades. Locally
price is the same.

I did not find a FAQ (as I don't know how to), but I have a question
to see if any of you have some simple facts.

Have used a pair of Mares Avanti for the last 3 years and have found them
fabulous. Big foot pockets and large drain holes (comes in useful, if you do a
lot of shore dives.)
Apparently the Mares Quattro, is better but also a lot more expensive.
IMHO, the Tusa fin blades are a bit too soft for my liking. Some friends I
know swear by them. Some swear at them.
Looks like fins are a very personal choice. You just have to try them out to
see if it fits your stlyle of finning.
