Dear H-FILM and SCREEN-L:

A friend of mine is working on a project on prison rape and was looking
for suggestions of film and tv depictions of male/male prison rape, either
explicit or implied. He's interested in both dramatic and comedic
representations (ie, the typical scenes of a man being locked up with
another prisoner who coyly suggests they get to know each other better...)

Any suggestions would be welcomed. email me at ba...@panix.com

"Scarcrow" with Al Pacino and Gene Hackman might be one that you're
looking for, though the 'rape' is consumated in a warehourse is memory
serves, and not in a prison cell.

_The Shawshank Redemption_ and Todd Haynes's _Poison_. I have not seen
the latter and don't know the details.

"Fortune and Men's Eyes" was, I believe, the first in this genre.

I don't remember if it's as detailed as in the novel, but there's also
mention of such an incident in PRESUMED INNOCENT.

Hi everyone,

Another depiction of male-male prison rape:

American Me (Edward James Olmos movie).

Not knowing that this movie had several scenes depicting sexual violence, I
once made the mistake of suggesting it when I went out on a first date with
someone. Talk about an uncomfortable movie-going experience! ("Do I
comment on this scene?" "Can I clear my throat?" etc.)

Try the australian film _Ghosts...of the Civil Dead_

also, the _birdman of alcatraz_ (i think - the clint eastwood one) has a
brief moment in the showers, as does the eastwood film _Heartbreak Ridge_
although these are not strictly rape scenes, more suggestions of prison sex.
