Nuran,

I had to secretly chuckle at your description of how you used to buy
romances. I do agree that buying and reading romances helps to build
character. Because they engender so much scorn, it takes a strong person to
be able to look someone in the eye and say, "Yes, I read romances. Why
don't you?" Luckily, I got to that point fairly early in reading them. I
just hope that everything gains that strength someday!

It's after 1:00 AM, and I should be in bed, but one of the phrases
in Jules post made me want to throw out a question. Jules said"it

takes a strong person to be able to look someone in the eye and
say". How many people on this list consider themselves to be
"strong people", and why. It really doesn't have to
be just romance?

I consider myself a "strong person", and I am rather certain my SO would
agree with me, as well as my previous to SO's, considering I saw them
all this past weekend, too. :)

I've never really had problems admitting things like I read romance
novels, or like Barry Manilow songs. <anticipatory glare at any
comments> I also have no problem doing things other people would never
do, like going to movies by myself, or just doing things by myself. My
current SO once classified me (before we started seeing each other) as
"rabidly independent" and that classification really fits.

On our plane flights to and from Milwaukee this past weekend, I read
"Outlander" (finally finished it too...and "Dragonfly in Amber" is 100
more pages! <whimper>) without batting an eyelash, and would probably
have read any other romance I was currently reading.

My SO used to tease me about reading them, until one night when I was
staying at his house, and was reading "Outlander" until late into the
night. When I finally put it down, I was ... ahem ... in a romantic
mood. Needless to say, he encourages me to read more romances. <wink>

Julia,

I laughed out loud when I read how your SO encourages you to read
romances. My daughter (Christine) should have been named "Shanna". Had
I Kathleen Woodiwiss' address at the time Chris was born, I would have
sent her a thank you note. <wink>
