North Operations Realigns to Serve Customers Better
Effective August 1, the 11 divisions that currently make up the North
Operations will be realigned into nine divisions. The new territories
were designed by the division superintendents, mechanical
superintendents, assistant vice presidents-line maintenance, and the
general superintendents-transportation. The alignment, which was made to
provide improved service to BNSF customers, will result in the
elimination of division offices at Fargo, N.D., and Glendive, Mont. Maps
of the new division boundaries are being distributed today.
Major division boundary changes are:
* The Colorado Division extends north to Laurel, Mont., via Greybull and
Casper, Wyo., and east to McCook, Neb.;
* The Powder River Division extends west to Jones Junction (Laurel) via
Sheridan, Wyo. and eastward to Glendive including the Snowden Branch;
* The Montana Division extends east to Minot, N.D.;
* The Minnesota Division extends west to Surrey Junction (East Minot)
which includes the KO (New Rockford) and Devils Lake subdivisions;
* The South Dakota Division now includes the Mandan Line to East
Glendive and extends from Aberdeen, S.D. to Hettinger, N.D.;
* The Pacific Division now includes all of the Stampede Pass Line to the
SP&S Junction (West Pasco, Wash.);
* The Washington Division extends to Conkelley, Mont.; and
* The Oregon Division extends north to Centralia, Wash.
The group primarily focused on improved customer service as the priority
in making the decisions as well as leadership and management of
employees with regard to seniority districts, dispatcher territories,
response time and geographic coverage, and coordination of terminal
activities. The North Operations Team is excited about the opportunities
this new alignment will bring with regard to meeting the BNSF vision
and its evidences of success.

I remember the posting a few weeks back concerning what happened to
Glendive and the Yellowstone Division. What's the story with Fargo??
Same thing, or was this in the works for a while?

Amazing the spin that the PR people can put on the incident so well
reported here where a blustery, immature, jack-booted thug threw a temper
tantrum and wreaked havoc on the railroad's customers, managers, and
employees. First you destroy service, then you reinstate it at lesser
levels. This is an improvement. Remember why the moron stopped beating
his head against the wall? They think their customers are morons.
The reign of terror on the railroads that these types of 'old line'
top-down management styles impose costs them, and their stockholders,
million$ -- yet they pretend not to notice.

I wonder if this viewpoint "changes" in locations where a railroad has
competition?
