Quaker House of Fayetteville, NC seeks Director

Quaker House of Fayetteville, North Carolina, is seeking a director to
counsel military personnel who are seeking discharge, information about
their rights, or who are AWOL. Serving the southeastern US, the director
works in concert with a nationwide organization of counselors as part of
the GI Rights Network.

The director must have a commitment to Quaker faith and practice. The work
involves frequent phone contact with service members who may be in crisis.
In addition to good organizational skills and a sense of humor, applicants
should be able to:
work independently
reach out into the larger community
deal comfortably with a diverse range of Friends
live and work in a predominantly military area
work on a computer.
Applicants for this position need not be trained military counselors, but
will need to learn rapidly on the job (with training and support).

The director reports to a Board of Overseers, made up of representatives
from Friends meetings from throughout the Carolinas, which meets monthly.
The director is responsible for daily operation of the office, written
communication (including a newsletter), supporting the life and growth of
Fayetteville Friends Meeting, representing Quaker House to the public, and
training and supervising volunteers. The director may also pursue projects
of his or her own design in the community which support non-violence and
justice in ways compatible with personal leadings and Quaker testimonies.

To supplement a starting salary of $12,000, benefits include a home (which
is also the office and meetinghouse) in a quiet, residential neighborhood
of Fayetteville, the use of a car, utilities, and health and life
insurance. The Board of Overseers seeks at least a two-year commitment.

Fayetteville is adjacent to Fort Bragg (one of the largest bases in the US)
and Pope Air Force Base. Since 1969 Quaker House has been a presence for
peace in Fayetteville, supported by Friends meetings and individual
