A PHILOSOPHY OF NONVIOLENCE, PART FOUR
YES, BUT WHAT ABOUT HITLER?
In his last installment for now, David McReynolds tackles the big questions
and deconstructs the myths that successful nonviolence campaigns have
always been against easy oppressors. We will never know if nonviolence
would have worked against Hitler... but within Occupied Europe there were
well documented victories for nonviolence. David McReynolds is with the
War Resisters League.
NEW SITE: THE CAMPAIGN TO FREE MORDECHAI VANUNU
Israel s nuclear weapon program is so super-secret that its government
denies its very existence. Yet military analysts believe Israel has up to
200 nuclear warheads and the knowledge of these weapons of mass destruction
has sparked round after round of a Middle East arms buildup that has led
most recently to Saddam Hussein s biological weapons. In 1986, a former
technician in Israel s nuclear-weapons facility named Mordechai Vanunu was
moved by conscience to blow the whistle on the program. In response,
Israel s secret police literally kidnapped him off the streets of Rome,
tried him behind closed doors and sentenced him to a 18-year prison termall
for outing a program that s not supposed to exist! Until last month, Vanunu
was in jailed in solitary confinement12 years of cruel punishment that
Amnesty International has called cruel, inhuman and degrading. Join the
International Campaign demanding his release!
JOIN THE APRIL 25TH EMAIL APPEAL FOR VANUNU S RELEASE
Urge Israeli President Ezer Weitzman to mark 50th Anniversary of Israel s
founding by releasing prisoner of conscience Mordechai Vanunu. A petition
with over 17,000 signatures will be presented to Weitzman on April 25th and
organizers want an email campaign to match!

EARTH FOR SALE: RECLAIMING ECOLOGY IN THE AGE OF CORPORATE GREENWASH
Brian Tokar looks at the 90s corporate sell-out of the environmental
movement and points the directions for a renewal of grassroots organizing
for ecological and economic justice. Howard Zinn writes of it: Earth for
Sale is a sharp-tongued critique of the corporate greed and government
collaboration that have created our environmental crisis. It delivers a
rousing call for grassroots action, believing that only a democratic
environmentalism can save us all. Buy it online though the NVWeb and
