We note with interest (from the AAPOR Conference mailing) that Tom Smith
at NORC is project manager for "a World Wide Web server that will
provide public access to General Social Survey data..." etc etc.

The "will" makes us assume this is not yet available. If not, when?
If now available, how is it reached?

Many thanks,

Over the next 12 months NORC and ICPSR will develop an Internet
product, the GSS Data and Information Retrieval System that
will provide full access to a) the 1972-1994 GSS data, including
sub-setting and an analysis engine, b) a bibliography of over
3,200 GSS uses, c) over 160 GSS Reports, d) the GSS codebook,
and e) related data and documents. All of these will be linked
together by hypertext.
There will also be a notice board, a consult line, and other ways
to contact both the staff and other GSS users.
A more detailed notice will be available in August when the GSSNews
is distributed. GSSNews is the annual project newsletter
and is available to users for free. If you want to be added to the
mailing list, please contact me.

Way to go, Pama! Good to see a distinguished newspaper in the pursuit of
truth in advertising. Put the screws to 'em, I say. Come on, Tom, fess
up. -- Jim

Please do NOT flood por with requests to be put on the mailing list.

Thanks,
Jim

PS Some por subscribers are afflicted by mail clients which do not show
the "header" lines. We request that people include their name and email
address at the end of posts to por.
