I'll agree that boycotting an election is a lousy way to protest the
current administration. But to compromise yourself and your ideals
by voting for a major candidate who, although barely representative
of your philosophies, has a chance of derailing the administration
in the next election, is a very short sighted strategy. Voting for
President is not like trying to pick the winner in the Super Bowl.
Doing my job as an American citizen and voting for the candidate
that *best* represents my opinions is a valid, longer term strategy.
The candidate/party may not win anything for several elections.
But, if the "fringe" party is deemed representative by a greater
number of voters, the party will either start winning elections, or
have major points in their platform incorporated into the platforms
of one or both of the major parties. Either way, I get what I
voted for.
>work with a viable candidate of your party preference. (I am a firm

Which is where we differ, I guess. I'm torn between the 7 party
system and the 28 party system (29 parties in leap years :-).
>Do not contribute to the re-election of the present administration by
>splintering the vote.
Do not perpetuate the stagnation of American politics by compromising
your ideals to vote for a major candidate who does not represent YOU.
>Welcome back to all of you that have been inactive lately.

Supposedly, a Trotskyite would remind us that supporting the lesser of
two evils drives the closer evil towards the greater one. Then again,
Trotksy never won New Hampshire, so what does he know about politics?
There are worse people to elect than the Bushman, and the Demos may
nominate one.
Me? I vote for effect. If I think that the election won't be within
0.1%, I vote for the candidate who's closest to where I want govt to
go, even if said candidate "can't" win. I've noticed that such
candidates are getting more votes than the difference between the two
"legit" candidates, I sure wish that they'd notice that sword over the
head of the winner and that opportunity for the loser.
