Position Vacancy- Austin Texas

Director and Librarian

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is seeking applications
or nominations for an executive director. The Director and Librarian
serves at the pleasure of the Commission, and administers customer
services offered through the State Library's eight programs: Archives
and Information Services, Information Resource Technologies, Library
Development, Library Resource Sharing, State and Local Records, Talking
Book, Technical Services, and Administration.

The State Legislature is now considering the budget for the 2000-2001
biennium. We are hopeful we will be able to expand some important
initiatives. With a staff of 206 and annual budget of $22 million, the
agency plans programs for all types of libraries, with major emphasis on
public libraries. In addition, the agency has responsibilities in
government records management, services for visually impaired persons,
and the preservation of state archival materials.

Candidates must have a master's degree from a program accredited by ALA
and eight years of increasingly responsible library experience.
Applicants should document experience in planning, administration,
budgeting and public speaking. A successful candidate must be able to
forge coalitions for library service and relate to the Texas Legislature
positively and proactively.

Please submit applications by JUNE 1 to be considered in the first round
of reviews. Salary is pending legislative action. Visit
www.tsl.state.tx.us to see the full job description and get the
application requirements. M/F EOE D.
