This is to announce C-Kermit 5A(189) for OS/2. Readers of the OS/2 lists
and newsgroups have already seen some talk about it. The major new features
are:

1. TCP/IP is now supported as a connection method, if you have IBM TCP/IP
installed on your OS/2 1.3 or 2.x system:

SET NETWORK TCP/IP
SET HOST <ip-name-or-address> [ <tcp-port> ]

or:

TELNET <ip-name-or-address> [ <tcp-port> ]

See "Using C-Kermit" for a full description of C-Kermit's TCP/IP
networking features.

2. Support for Hebrew character-set translation.

3. By popular demand, a new and improved key mapping file, CKOVTK.INI.
Unlike the previous edition, this one allows Num Lock to be used
for PF1 (Gold), and it also includes the much-discussed VT220 key
assignments as an option. For further information, read this file.

4. From Jeffrey Altman, an automatic install procedure, INSTALL.CMD.
It puts all the files you need wherever you want them, customizes
your CKERMOD.INI file according to your preferences, installs the
dummy TCP/IP DLL if (and where) needed, and -- with your permission
only -- alters CONFIG.SYS so everything will work right.

The new version is available via anonymous ftp from watsun.cc.columbia.edu
[128.59.39.2], binary mode, kermit/bin/ckoker.zip. UNZIP it and then run
the INSTALL procedure.

The files are also available individually in kermit/b on the same host.
Get the file kermit/b/ckoaaaa.hlp as a guide. BITNET / EARN users can also
retrieve the files via KERMSRV@CUVMA.

One of the things I like best about MS-Kermit was the Tektronix 4014
graphics emulation. Is this code currently part of C-Kermit, or will it
be part of a future version ?

If the answer is no, can I run MS-Kermit under OS/2 2.0, and what are
the DOS box settings if I can.

Thanks Stefan

No, but it is on the wish-list.

Yes, you can run MS-Kermit under OS/2. It doesn't seem to be picky about
DOS settings. Important thing is that you need either the recently released
version 3.13, or 3.12 plus the current patch file. There used to be a problem
with the interrupt handler enabling interrupts at the wrong time which led to
loss of characters.

The C-Kermit mentioned in the subject lines is the latest version of Kermit.
It is an OS/2 program so you can NOT run it in a DOS box. Kermit can be run
in an OS/2 window or as a full screen session. Kermit may be obtained from
Columbia University.
