I'm a college studnet and I'm interested in studing for and taking CNE
exams over the summer, however I don't have the money to pay upwards of
$3,000 to take classes. I'm about to shell out $500 for a self study
kit, but is there anything less expensive (free) or better (free) that be
another means toward the same end.

I just bought "The CNE-4 Study Guide" at Walden Bookstore.
Not cheap at $89.99 but so far it's pretty helpful. 1500+ pages.
I've only taken one course Adm. for 3.12, but this book seems to start
at a very basic level and build.
Have you seen the materials from WAVE technologies? They have a web
site and offices in several cities.

I have taken classes, but I found the computer based tests from
CyberPass were excellent. They have a web page (maybe it was
www.cyberpass.com) where you can dl practice tests. Of all the
practice tests I tried these were easily the best quality.
