I probably should have made it clearer that the modem seems to be properly
installed, because Hyperterminal has no problem with it. Paul is probably
right (as usual!) in suspecting that Kermit can't communicate with it
properly because the device name is changed. I can't find the new
name in any of the property sheets (unless its "modem") although I do
find the driver (comm.drv). But it doesn't matter, because DOS
kermit recognizes only the various port names and some network
names as legitimate parameters for the set port command. I don't think
I want to explore resetting up the new PNP modem in an effort to restore
the status quo ante, i.e. DOS, and forsake whatever Win95 is doing for
other communication programs. Time to move on...
