The Cleveland Museum of Art announces a new scholarly journal.
Details follow.
_________________________________________________________________

Cleveland Studies in the History of Art publishes scholarly
articles and shorter notes containing original research related to
the museum's permanent collection. While collection-based articles
are particularly sought, others will also be considered. Articles
are invited from outside contributors, as well as members of the
staff. Submissions, prepared according to the following
guidelines, should be addressed to:

Henry Hawley, Executive Editor
Cleveland Studies in the History of Art
The Cleveland Museum of Art
11150 East Boulevard
Cleveland, OH 44106-1979
fax: 216-421-9409

Procedures
Submitted manuscripts are reviewed by an editorial board drawn
from CMA staff and using the advice of outside referees. Cleveland
Studies is published annually; articles submitted no later than 1
March will be considered for that year's volume. The inaugural
issue will be published in 1996. Authors have the opportunity to
review their manuscripts after editing has been completed and
again in pages. Changes are not possible after the second review.

Manuscript
The publication's language is English, and all articles should be
thus submitted. All manuscripts should include a brief abstract
(75 words maximum). Supply English translations for important
quotes in foreign languages.

All text, including quotations and endnotes, should be double-
spaced and have margins of at least one inch. Number pages
consecutively, including endnotes and captions.

Because of the savings in cost, time, and effort, Cleveland
Studies prefers to receive manuscripts in electronic form, that
is, on a computer disk with accompanying hard copy (printout). The
preferred software is WordPerfect. Please date all disks and hard
copy.

Illustrations
All photographs must be submitted with the manuscript. Supply
sharp, glossy black-and-white prints made, whenever possible, from
the original work of art. If photographs have of necessity been
made from reproductions, supply full bibliographical information
in the appropriate caption.

On the reverse of each photograph indicate its orientation (top,
or an arrow pointing up) and figure number in soft pencil close to
the edge so as not to mar the print; indicate cropping on a
photocopy of each photograph. For all illustrations supply a
separate double-spaced list of captions that includes pertinent
information, including artist (nationality and dates) or object
type, culture/location; title and date of the work; medium;
location (city, museum/collection); and photo credit.

It is the author's responsibility to obtain all photographic
material and permissions to reproduce.

House Style
The Cleveland Museum of Art uses the Chicago Manual of Style as
its standard reference. A style sheet is available from the CMA.
