Like some people, I was having the audio crackling problem with The Sims 3 64bit and Metal when playing on an M1 MacBook. Just wanted to share that I found a fix via the EA Forums that worked for me.

Ever since one of my spellcaster sims became an acolyte she keeps crackling with electricity all over her body from her arms down to her legs. It doesn't seem to be interfering with anything it's just really confusing.

I discovered that when I play The Sims 3 on my MacBook Air with M1 chip the game makes crackling sounds. Same thing happened in The sims 4 and it has been patched so I hope somebody will fix it in The Sims 3.

MACIEJOowaty I haven't seen many reports of sound crackling on M1 Macs, at least not in Sims 3, and I know it doesn't happen for some players at least. What sound device(s) have you tried using so far, and does the sound crackle with all of them?

The sound goes directly from my MacBook, when any sound from The Sims 3 is playing, when connected to AirPods same thing happens, when I connect headphones through jack input you can also hear music crackle. It's basically the same issue as in the sims 4, which has been patched and you can no longer hear crackling in TS4, so I know its something Devs have to fix.

As for the Purple outline. i noticed it was also on the Sim Portrait in the UI inside the Gameplay (Above the Timer and Lifetime Wish)

as for the sound. i tried both headphones and The Mac Mini's speaker.its only happening in sims 3 though i tried sims 4 and sims 4 works flawlessly.

shay0123405 I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you here. There are a couple other people who've reported the same issue, but others on the same Macs with the same sound output have said they get no crackling, and I haven't been able to figure out what the difference might be.

I ran MSFS with MSI Afterburner open and noticed every time the sim froze and gave the crackling audio, my GPU utilization dropped to 0 and then picked itself up again. This made me think it might be a GPU/DX11 issue. So I tested other games, but none of them showed any symptom like MSFS does.

I get irritating popping and crackling sounds with primarily kick, bass guitar, guitars on some of my projects and not on others. I follow pretty much the exact same way of recording and mixing on all songs but have noticed that I have this problem sometimes. With the kick, it isn't even a real kick but the Session Drummer kick. The bass and guitars are real in the sense that I go through an interface and use amp sims and/or DI box.

I am not clipping on any tracks and I do use gain staging and a variety of plug ins. I have even turned the kick almost all the way down, in solo, and the pop/crackle is still there--same with the bass and guitars.

Thanks John and Pragi, for our replies and suggestions. I should have mentioned already that I am hearing the popping and crackling in m headphones. I do have old and probably beat up cables that I have stepped on over the years. I hear these sounds over monitors and through headphones.

One of my thoughts on this is that I may have overloaded the guitars and bass at time of recording (not according to my inputs though) but even if they were true, why is the kick also popping? The kick is just a sample from Session Drummer. As I have said earlier, even when I take off any plugs and also reduce the kick volume to almost nonexistent, the crackle and pop is still present. I don't understand this. I am not overloading the kick--it sits at -18 currently and the gain is set to -6 and this is still plenty loud enough like this.

It said 16 bits because I forgot that I had changed it in an attempt to learn anything about the crackle--it is not at 16 normally. I am not using an internal card nor a laptop but I have long suspected that maybe my interface is old and maybe nothing special to begin with. I have been using the UX1 from Line 6 for about 10 years.

Many thanks Matt! However, as per my luck with all this, it did not stop the crackle and pop. I really appreciate you giving it a try and I am delighted that it worked for you--you must be a happy person! Now, why couldn't it have been that easy for me, too (darn it)

Hey all you guys, thanks so much for our help. Here's the funny thing--after reading tezza's reply, I suddenly remembered having this same problem about 5 years ago maybe. It's funny how we forget, but I am nearly 100% sure that I remember asking this same thing about the popping and crackle. What I determined last time this happened was that my system just couldn't keep up with all the demands that I placed on it. After I got a new pc last time, sure enough, no more pop, crackle and drop...up until now and here it is again. I have been putting off getting a new computer for too long now and that was mostly due to the hell of transferring everything over to the new pc. I was even on here awhile back asking you guys what you recommended for a new pc.

I also downloaded the TSE BOD and that seems to work fine with no snap, crackle and pop. On the TSE BOD, I turned the drive to full and the blend all the way to the left (which I think means I just have the wet signal?).

I will try it away from home & in another phone when I can but both my work phone & Wife's phone are locked to other networks as I've tried it in them. My phone works fine with their sims in it so I assumed it was an issue with the old sim.

Not sure where to post the experience I like to share.

I have been using the official build of crackling (Wileyfox Swift with two SIM cards) for about a year. The system was running more or less smooth. Since the update to v15 my phone startet to go into spontaneous reboots, about once every day or two. I could live with that, although it was annoying.

From v16 on the reboots became so frequent, up to ten times a day, that the phone is getting quite unusable for me. It is difficult to receive a call during the day, because I always have to check for entering the PIN numbers.

I tried to uninstall several apps, I was suspicous about, but to no avail. My suspect is that it might have to do with the SMS function, because after reboot the phone frequently asks me to select the SIM for sending SMS.

For the moment I switched back to Lineage 17 to have a reliable device.

Furthermore I am wondering when will crackling be taken to a Oreo or Q build. Has been announced a long time gone, but no more rumors are to be heard.

I re-installed a fresh copy of FS9 after around a year and started filling it with my usual addons. I've got most of my things set up so today I decided to test the sim out and immediately noticed a very annoying problem. I downloaded POSKY's 737NG as well as Emil Serafino's soundpack to go with it. While the aircraft and everything associated with it work fine, the engine sound is crackling. I don't remember ever having this issue in FS9 before so I'm rather stumped. I've added the advanced sound settings to the FS9.cfg file but it seems like that's not doing anything. Unfortunately, as far as aircraft are concerned, I have none installed yet other than that 737NG so I cannot test if it's happening throughout the sim or if it's just isolated to this particular aircraft.

Edit: I took the liberty of installing Project Airbus's A380 and also installed my Turbine Sound Studio's Engine Alliance pack to go along with the Emirates A380. Unfortunately, the problem persists so I've ruled out the soundpacks as being the culprit. One other I noticed was that the displays in the 2D panel were flickering like crazy while on the groud, but when airborne, they stopped flickering and the sound cracking returned. The crackling is not present while on the ground, just in the air.

I have noticed the same sound crackling in FS9 while airborne. I am using the HJG B727-200. I have attributed the crackling to using Radar Contact 4. Sound is smooth on the ground but in the air I hear cracking. If I try a flight without using RC4 then I don't have any cracking. I like the RC4 program but feel the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired.

I had forgotten to lock my FPS in FS9 and the moment I locked the sim to 60FPS, all crackling and flickering disappeared. Have double checked to make sure all equalization settings are "flat" and no audio effects are in use.

 Sound card drivers where my crackle problems. Was very severe in the cockpit when I raised and lowered the engines. I was using the Creative XFI Champion sound card and was beating out my brain for days  wondering why and how to solve the crackle problem. Without realizing the fix occured when I updated my creative drivers to the latest version. The problem was gone for good. Tested on a new build with the default Creative DVD drivers and the crackle was there, then updated again and it was repaired. I hope this helps out a bit for future readers trying to solve the crackle problems. Whatever sound card you are using, MAKE SURE!, that you have the latest and best updated drivers.

Hello, I've just bought a code 100H and have had a 50 combo for atleast half the year. I love the amps, however I've noticed when I use my stomp boxes there's a nasty crackling sound on the decay of notes. I'm using a MXR OD808, MXR phase 90, analog chorus, and 10 band eq (blue lights), Ernie ball VPJR, Dunlop Crybaby classic, and a polytune tuner pedal mini. Is it potentially due to the stomp boxes and if so I am all ears on what needs to be done to get rid of the crackling in the decay, it is really prmoinent with the cab sim being off. I have the 100H connected to the code 412 cab as well.

I had the same problem earlier today and I fixed it easy. first break down to guitar cable and amp and add each pedal one by one till you find which one it is causing the problem. I had a source audio Nemesis that was connected to a voodoo lab power hub that was the source of the crackle.I put it on a isolated power supply and presto, no more crackle. so that's one thing you can check. just plug in your guitar with only a cable straight in and if it is quiet then you know its one of the pedals.
